Lisa Standing BDSc (WA), Grad Dip Forensic Odontology (WA), FICD.

I was born in Sydney and travelled to Perth as a child where I happily remain. I attended a tough, diverse Government High school and was taught by great teachers. When I won the manual arts prize (competing mostly with boys), I wondered if I should consider a job which used my hands. I’d had no work experience but had a hunch I’d like dentistry. I’m a big believer in following your instinct and luckily, I do love dentistry! In 1991 I graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Science from the University of Western Australia and was fortunate to be awarded Best student in the Practice of Prosthodontics, and Most Outstanding student in Restorative Dentistry. I became a member of the ADA and remain so.

I have worked at many private practices in Perth, in between juggling 3 children. My longest-term job was as a tutor at UWA (now OHCWA) for 25 years where I tutored general and paediatric dentistry, laboratory work and dentures. My continued education includes an interest in rehabilitating broken down teeth, pain management, and disease prevention. A recent interest is Forensic Dentistry and in 2020 I obtained a Graduate Diploma of Forensic Dentistry. Additionally, I have some training and a lot of interest in Alcohol and Other Drug counselling.

My personal passion is kindness and caring for the underprivileged and I have been on 3 working adventures to Vietnam with the Children’s Health Aid Team. More recently I have volunteered at St Patricks Community Dental Clinic in Fremantle for the last 3 years.

I am very proud and excited to have taken over the ownership of Perth City Dental. It is a practice steeped in tradition for high-quality dental care formed passionately by Dr Bill Marsell 50 years ago, followed by Dr John Marsell, his son.

Outside of dentistry I love to keep fit, swim in the ocean, and cook with good local produce. My family and friends are a big part of who I am, and I enjoy doing all of this with them. We have a Jack Russell with a big personality and an old Kelpie.
